Cavanna designs, manufactures and tests its own toolings from its CARTESIO robotics division. End- of-arm tooling (EOT) equipment is tested on a wide installed base, and also on 3D simulation, bench testing and reliability trials. EOT equipment is designed for easy changeover and a recipe-driven approach. Smart tags reduce failures and boost vertical start-ups after any changeover.

Cavanna Packaging USA offers a wide range of flow wrapping machines. The Twin Slim wrapper is a continuous motion horizontal packaging machine designed for wrapping products such as crackers, biscuits, bars, pharmaceutical products, and even non-food products using thermo-sealable and/or cold-sealable materials. This compact machine, only 2 m long X 0.5 m wide, can be combined with another Twin Slim as two parallel machines with a single-side operator. Other wrappers include the ZERO BRL wrapper for high speed wrapping of tray products, the Zero 5 R Wrapper for irregular shaped, weighty, pillow packed and other products, and the Zero 5 NKZ Wrapper horizontal continuous motion wrapper designed to meet future needs and format changes with low-cost operation and easy maintenance.

From the CARTESIO robotics division of Cavanna comes the G41 model, a compact solution for loading products into trays at the end of line. A head samples the products from the vertical arrangement device (VMC) with continuous feed from the packaging machine. Works with all kinds of products, filling display trays and American-style boxes.

Cavanna Packaging USA’s horizontal and vertical accumulating and buffering systems are used in food processing applications such as cookies, snacks, and chocolate bars. Systems have a large storage capacity for products coming in aligned or randomly. Cavanna’s dynamic buffer features first-in/first-out (FIFO) technology and servo technology. As products enter, they are aligned in a continuous movement before being buffered via four storage coves and discharged via a swinging conveyor belt and pusher. The multi-level horizontal buffer, suitable for snack bars, chocolate bars, biscuits and other products arranged in rows, uses the last-in/first out (LIFO) system, with up to four levels of distributing stations using four buffer conveyors.

Cavanna Packaging USA supplies full wrapping lines for round, square and rectangular products such as biscuits, crackers and cookies that arrive and align in regular rows. These lines feature integrated, automated solutions for product feeding and conveying between guides.The system can feed one or more wrapping lines directly from the processing line and be connected to a buffering system, product refeed station, or to other processing stations such as cooling tunnels. System features slug forming through an SBF type volumetric feeder. Up to 12 channel configurations are available.

Cavanna Packaging USA specializes in equipment for flow wrapped cookies, biscuits, and snacks, including feeding and pick-and-place systems. The P4 is a robotic pick-and-place system, designed as a compact and fast solution for automatically loading either flow wrapped goods or trays. Robots’ belt track systems allow them to work directly in continuous or intermittent motion at speeds up to 80 cycles/min. Cavanna’s inline Stream belt feeder helps load bars, chocolate bars, extruded food products, snacks, cookies and biscuits with regular or irregular shapes from the processing line and deliver them to the wrapping machines. Handles fragile, dusty and sticky products carefully, conveying them without pressure or contact between individual pieces.

VTS 20 is a vacuum packaging testing system from Cavanna Packaging USA. Detects pack seals and is suitable for production applications such as rejects, shelf life preservation testing and packaging quality testing. Tests are designed to be very easy: testing begins by dipping the package in the VTS tank. When negative pressure is produced, it will cause the pack to expand and swell. SEals are then put under pressure and all possible leakages are noticeable in the form of water bubbles.

Cavanna Packaging USA designs, builds and integrates both 2-axis and delta robots for both primary and secondary packaging including cartoning applications. In addition, Cavanna offers the Carteasy cartoning packer unit, suitable for all types of flow wrapped wafers, trays, sandwiches and other baked goods. As packs emerge from the flow wrapper, they are conveyed to the unit where the portion is formed, picked and placed inside an American style carton box.
